A pre-travel health appointment in China is not one national product with one booking page. The International Travel Health Care Center network is affiliated with Customs, but each center and branch controls its own appointment categories, service scope and operating instructions. Start by naming the administrative output you are trying to obtain: a consultation, a vaccination service, transcription of a prior record, an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (ICVP), a destination form or another expressly identified document. Do not book a residence health examination simply because it shares the same institutional brand. An ICVP is also different from an adult domestic vaccination credential, a child's vaccination certificate and an International Travel Health Examination Certificate used in some work, study or residence processes. Before booking, build a dated itinerary file covering destination, every transit point, carrier and planned dates, then check the current official requirement owners. The destination or transit authority and carrier decide what they require; the Chinese center decides which services it can provide and whether it can use prior evidence. This guide helps organize those administrative questions. It does not recommend a vaccine, decide clinical eligibility, interpret symptoms or promise that any center has a service, appointment, vaccine, form, language option or certificate acceptable to another authority. Branches can differ, and local instructions can change without a national announcement, so obtain center-controlled confirmation close to the appointment and recheck travel rules before departure.

Use this as a practical starting point

Provider procedures can change, so confirm time-sensitive details with the hospital, insurer or service. A licensed professional must make clinical decisions for an individual patient.

Key points

  • Name the exact service and document output before choosing an appointment category.
  • Use the official International Travel Health Care Center directory, then verify the responsible center's own current channel.
  • Check the destination, every transit point and carrier because itinerary requirements can change independently.
  • Confirm the branch, date, identity-document route and prior-record policy directly with the center.
  • Do not treat a community vaccination clinic, ordinary hospital or residence-exam booking as an ICVP appointment.
  • Keep domestic adult records, children's certificates, the ICVP and travel or residence health-exam certificates in separate files.
  • A booking is not evidence of stock, clinical eligibility, certificate issue or acceptance by another authority.
  • Check every identity and event field on any document issued and preserve the provider record and receipt.
01

Define the task before opening a booking system

Write one sentence that names the traveller, itinerary, requesting authority and desired output. Examples of output categories include an appointment to discuss a destination requirement, a center-administered vaccination with an ICVP entry, transcription of documented prior vaccination, completion of a named foreign form or a separate health examination. These labels are not interchangeable, and a center may separate them into different appointment types or locations.

If an employer, school, consulate or travel organizer sent a request, preserve the complete message and official link rather than copying one line into a chat. Ask the requester to identify the document name, issuing-authority requirement, language or format and submission deadline. The center can then say whether it performs that task; this site cannot decide whether the request is clinically appropriate or legally sufficient.

An International Travel Health Examination Certificate or a foreign-national residence examination is not an ICVP and should not be booked as a substitute.

02

Build a dated itinerary requirement file

Record the destination, each airport or land crossing used in transit, length and conditions of transit, carrier, departure date and any later border crossing. Save the date and URL of the destination authority, transit authority and carrier rule you checked. A country-level summary without the actual routing can miss a transit condition, while a carrier page cannot replace a border authority's rule.

China's border-health law and Customs service guide explain why vaccination or preventive-measure evidence may be checked in relevant circumstances, but they do not create one document requirement for every journey. Likewise, the WHO framework defines the ICVP but is not a live decision for a particular route. Recheck all decision owners shortly before travel and after any itinerary change.

03

Find the center, then confirm the branch

Use the official national directory to identify the regional International Travel Health Care Center and its Customs affiliation. Continue to the center-controlled website, official account or contact details. Do not assume that a map result, hospital directory or commercial appointment agent is an authorized center channel.

Ask which branch handles the exact appointment type and whether a reservation is mandatory. Beijing's center publishes a dedicated outbound vaccination and record-transcription route; Qinghai publishes a locally structured guide separating several travel-health tasks. Those pages prove local variation, not a nationwide document list. A directory entry or center homepage does not guarantee that every branch performs every task.

04

Confirm the appointment inputs without inventing a national checklist

Ask the center to state the accepted identity document, booking identity fields, appointment confirmation, itinerary evidence, prior vaccination originals, translation requirements, photographs or forms, payment method and collection method for the selected service. Repeat the traveller's passport spelling and number through the center's secure channel. If the booking platform cannot accept the identity document or phone number, ask for the center's official assisted route rather than creating a mismatched profile.

Bring only a center-confirmed working set plus the originals needed to verify identity and source records. Do not publish one city's photo size, price, service time or material list as a China-wide rule. This guide does not guarantee that a center can communicate in a preferred language, accept an overseas record, transcribe it, complete a foreign form or issue a certificate on a particular timetable.

05

Separate the four document families

An adult domestic vaccination credential records vaccination delivered through a domestic provider and local information system. A child's vaccination certificate belongs to the child vaccination and school-entry record workflow. An ICVP is the WHO-model international certificate completed through an authorized issuing route. An International Travel Health Examination Certificate, overseas-examination verification or residence health-exam result belongs to an examination and administrative-permit workflow.

A local electronic vaccination certificate may be useful evidence of a locally established record; Shanghai, for example, publishes a route for foreign nationals whose record already exists in its system. It is not automatically an ICVP and does not guarantee acceptance at a border, consulate, school, employer or carrier. Ask the requesting authority for the exact document name instead of uploading every health record available.

06

Use prior records as evidence, not as a promised conversion

Organize prior records by issuer, recipient identity, event date, product or procedure entry and any official stamp or signature visible on the original. Keep the original, a legible scan and any authorized translation separately. If names or passport numbers differ, carry the official linkage evidence and describe the mismatch before the appointment.

The provider decides whether its source record is sufficient for a new entry, transcription, correction or other output. A domestic record, app screenshot, childhood certificate or overseas card does not compel a center to issue an ICVP. Do not alter, recreate or backfill an official field yourself, and do not pay an intermediary who promises guaranteed conversion.

07

Close the appointment with a document-control check

Before leaving, identify exactly what was provided: consultation note, domestic vaccination record, ICVP, receipt, collection voucher, foreign form or follow-up instruction. Check the name against the passport, date entries, issuing-center details and any other visible administrative fields. Ask the issuing center to correct an error; handwriting over or editing a scan can undermine later verification.

Store the original securely and keep a high-quality scan with the itinerary requirement snapshot and center correspondence. Recheck destination, transit and carrier rules before departure. An issued document does not guarantee boarding, entry, exit or acceptance, and an appointment outcome does not replace a clinician's assessment of individual medical questions.

Avoidable problems

Common mistakes

  • Selecting a residence physical-exam appointment for an outbound vaccination request.
  • Assuming every branch of a center provides the same services.
  • Copying Beijing, Shanghai or Qinghai documents and fees into a nationwide checklist.
  • Treating an airline page as the only authority for a border requirement.
  • Assuming a domestic vaccination screenshot is automatically an ICVP.
  • Creating a booking profile with a shortened or mismatched passport name.
  • Sending original health records to an unverified commercial agent.
  • Leaving without checking the identity and event fields on the issued document.
  • Treating an appointment confirmation as proof of stock or certificate issue.
  • Failing to recheck requirements after a transit point or carrier changes.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Is there one national website for every pre-travel health appointment in China?

No. The official directory helps identify regional International Travel Health Care Centers, but each center and branch controls its service categories and current booking instructions. Confirm the exact task, branch and channel with the provider. A directory listing is not proof of appointment capacity, stock, document support, language service, price or timing.

Can I book at an ordinary hospital or community vaccination clinic?

Those providers may issue domestic vaccination records for services within their authorized scope, but that does not make them an ICVP issuer or an International Travel Health Care Center. If an authority requests an ICVP, destination form or center-issued travel document, verify the authorized issuing route before booking.

What documents should I bring?

There is no safe nationwide checklist. Ask the selected center about identity evidence, itinerary proof, originals, translations, forms, photographs, payment and collection for the exact appointment type. Local pages are examples only. Bring the appointment confirmation and do not assume another city's materials apply.

Can a center convert my overseas vaccination card into an ICVP?

Only the responsible center can decide whether it offers record review or transcription and whether the original evidence is sufficient. A card, translation or app screenshot does not create a right to an ICVP entry. Preserve the original and ask before booking; do not edit or recreate the record yourself.

Is a Chinese electronic vaccination certificate valid for international travel?

It is evidence from a domestic record system, not automatically an ICVP. Shanghai's official electronic-certificate route, for example, expressly remains a local vaccination credential. The destination, transit authority, carrier or other requester decides what it accepts, so ask for the exact document name.

Does a confirmed appointment guarantee that I will receive a certificate?

No. Booking does not prove that the center has the requested service or stock on the day, that prior evidence will be accepted, that a clinician will find the service appropriate or that a certificate can be issued. It also does not guarantee acceptance by a destination, transit authority, carrier, school or employer.
