Shenzhen uses an authorized port-health route for relevant foreign work, study and residence files. This city-specific administrative route is separate from a routine checkup and an occupational-health examination, and its local instructions must not be generalized outside Shenzhen. The official institution directory lists Shenzhen International Travel Health Care Center, also described as the Shenzhen Customs Port Outpatient Department, with locations in the Huanggang Port Living Area in Futian and at Heping Building on Heping Road in Luohu. Current and recent official sources do not show that every applicant can use either site interchangeably, so book through the center's official channel and follow the location on the confirmation. Keep the examination, overseas-record verification, work permit, school file and public-security residence application separate. Shenzhen's current public-security portal requires work-type residence applicants aged 18 to 70 to submit the named health certificate and expressly allows omission for extension and replacement; it does not state the same exemption for reissuance or transfer, and the rule must not be expanded to students, every residence category or another city.

1. Separate the Shenzhen files at the start
Create separate folders for health-center examination or verification, employer and work-permit processing, school intake, accommodation registration where applicable, and public-security visa or residence processing. Put the recipient, exact required document and deadline on each folder. A single person may move through several folders, but one appointment or certificate does not complete them all.
Ask whether the case is a first application, post-entry completion, first work-type residence application, extension, replacement, reissuance, transfer from another city or student residence route. Shenzhen's official portals attach different health-document rules to those labels. If the recipient cannot name the route, do not rely on an agent's generic “foreigner physical” checklist.

2. Book the Shenzhen center and read the location
The official directory identifies Shenzhen International Travel Health Care Center, also called the Shenzhen Customs Port Outpatient Department. It lists the headquarters at Comprehensive Building No. 1 in the Huanggang Port Living Area, Futian District, and an examination and vaccination department at Heping Building, No. 2047 Heping Road, Luohu District. General directory hours do not prove that every service is offered at both locations.
The 2025 SYSU welcome guide directs relevant Shenzhen students to the official WeChat account named Shenzhen International Travel Health Care Center. Book through the current official channel, select the actual administrative purpose and preserve the message naming the site, date, arrival window, materials and preparation. If a school page and booking confirmation differ, ask the center and named recipient before travel.

Do not assume Huanggang and Heping Road are interchangeable, and do not treat an institution's office hours as permission to walk in for an unbooked administrative examination.
3. Track the six-month and immigration clocks separately
The current national regulation gives the applicable health certificate a six-month validity period and requires it for a residence document valid for one year or longer. Current Shenzhen work-permit and work-residence guides also use a six-month health-document window. That does not mean every recipient calculates from the same event: record the examination or issue date and ask whether the recipient measures currency on filing, acceptance or another point.
Separately track the visa or authorized-stay deadline, the 30-day residence-formality requirement where the visa calls for residence, the employer's work-permit deadline and any school deadline. An appointment booked inside the six-month certificate window does not extend lawful stay, and a pending report does not authorize work.

4. Complete the Shenzhen work-permit health step
Shenzhen Government Online's current January 2026 guide says that, if health proof was not submitted with the pre-entry work-permit notification, the post-entry work-permit file requires a certificate issued within six months by a Chinese inspection-and-quarantine institution. The city's current service materials also describe an overseas document from a medical institution recognized by a Chinese inspection-and-quarantine institution, with the relevant list potentially published on the local Chinese embassy or consulate website, and the commitment route followed by a Chinese certificate after entry.
Ask the employer or work-permit operator to show which stage and document field is open. Preserve any pre-entry commitment and the authority's response to an overseas document. The examination center can issue or verify health evidence; it does not approve the work permit. Shenzhen's electronic work-permit and social-security-card environment also does not change that division.

5. Apply Shenzhen's work-residence rule narrowly
The combined Shenzhen public-security work-type residence service page requires applicants aged 18 to 70 to submit a health certificate issued within six months by a Shenzhen port hospital, together with the other named work-residence materials. It expressly allows omission for extension and replacement applications. It does not state the same exemption for reissuance or transfer, so those routes must be confirmed with Shenzhen Public Security rather than inferred from the page.
Do not infer that an applicant under 18 or over 70 never needs health evidence in another residence category, that a student follows the work-residence route, or that Guangzhou has the same age wording. If the case is close to an age threshold, combines a transfer and renewal, or has been classified differently in the portal, ask the Shenzhen exit-entry authority how the current facts are handled.

The health certificate is one item in the applicable work-type residence file. It is not the work permit, unit letter, passport record, photograph receipt or residence approval.
6. Treat transfer guidance as a fact-specific exception
A Shenzhen Port Office FAQ published in May 2024 describes a narrow case in which the prior other-city work-type residence document had an original validity period of one year or longer and its expiry date falls within six months; it separately flags the situation where the prior holder was a minor. That answer can help frame a question, but it is not a universal exemption from a new health examination.
Bring the old residence document, its issue and expiry dates, the prior health certificate if available, the current work-permit transfer evidence and the applicant's age history. Ask Shenzhen Public Security to classify the route before booking a repeat or assuming the old certificate is enough. Save the answer with the case file.

7. Keep the student route separate from work residence
A student should begin with the school's international-student office and ask which examination or overseas-record verification it requires for the study and residence sequence. Shenzhen University's 2023 guide routed relevant students to the Huanggang-area port-health institution and listed an admission letter for study over one year. SYSU's 2023 guide listed both Shenzhen locations for its students. Those pages help identify the authorized institution but do not prove that every 2026 student can choose either site.
Ask the school for its admission and JW-document requirements, passport and visa copies, entry record, accommodation-registration step and internal deadline. Then read the center appointment for the examination materials. A school acceptance, center certificate and public-security study-residence decision remain separate records.

8. Do not mix examination photos with residence photos
Recent Shenzhen university pages used three two-inch photographs for their student examination workflows. The current Shenzhen public-security work-residence guide separately calls for a blue-background two-inch photograph and a Guangdong foreigner digital-photo receipt. These are not necessarily the same product, quantity or destination.
Follow the center confirmation for photographs used in the health examination and the current public-security checklist for the residence file. Do not assume that photos left after the examination replace the digital-photo receipt, or that the residence photo satisfies the health center. Keep each set labelled by recipient.

9. Prepare the identity and application pack
Bring the original passport used in the current application and the copies named in the booking. Recent student guides list identity, visa and latest-entry pages; the work-residence service guide adds the work unit's letter, work permit and separate photo materials. Ask whether the center needs the admission notice, work-permit notification, employer evidence or another proof to classify the examination and any fee-relief eligibility.
Compare the name, date of birth, nationality and passport number across the appointment, overseas form, work or school system and residence documents. If the passport changed, bring the old passport or official linkage evidence and ask how the center and each recipient will connect the records before a certificate is issued.

10. Ask the center to verify the complete overseas record
Bring the original physical-examination form, all laboratory and imaging results, physician signatures and the medical institution's seals or stamps. Shenzhen University's official 2023 page says the center decides whether an overseas record can be verified and whether supplementary items are needed. Do not submit only a translation, screenshot or one summary page.
For a work-permit file, current Shenzhen guidance refers to a health document issued within six months by an overseas institution recognized by a Chinese inspection-and-quarantine institution; the relevant list may be published on the local Chinese embassy or consulate website. That administrative recognition does not guarantee that an incomplete form will be exchanged or that public security will accept the same document for a different route. Ask for a written list of missing, repeat or unverified items.

Notarization, apostille or translation does not by itself convert an overseas medical record into a Shenzhen health certificate. The authorized center and receiving authority decide.
11. Follow the current clinical preparation message
Use the appointment message for fasting, food, drink, clothing, arrival time and any other preparation. Do not copy a Guangzhou instruction, an old school webpage or a routine-checkup package. Do not stop or change prescribed medicine merely to follow a generic internet list; ask the treating clinician and examination center how to manage it.
Tell the center's clinical staff about matters relevant to safe procedures, including possible pregnancy, implanted devices, mobility or communication needs, and follow their instructions. Request qualified language support for medical history, consent or clinical instructions where needed. This guide cannot decide whether an examination item should be performed, deferred, substituted or accepted by the administrative recipient.
12. Confirm the current fee and any relief assessment
No current official Shenzhen-wide 2026 package total was located. Shenzhen University's 2023 page included approximate amounts, but those figures are dated, student-specific and unsuitable as current pricing. A full examination, overseas-record verification, supplementary items, vaccination and other services can also have different charges.
The national official portal continues to publish a policy describing conditional charge suspension for specified first-entry workers and students and qualifying overseas-record verification for people intending to settle, work or study for one year or longer. Ask the Shenzhen center what proof it currently accepts and which standard items are covered. Extra items or cases without the required proof may remain self-paid.

13. Collect, inspect and submit the correct document
SYSU's 2023 page estimated two to five working days for its Shenzhen students. Use that only as historical planning context. The current receipt should control the collection date, location, method and document. Allow time for a supplementary item, verification question or identity correction.
At collection, inspect the Roman-letter name, passport number, date of birth, examination and issue dates and institution mark. Do not edit or retouch the record. Submit the certificate or verification result to the named employer, school or authority through its verified channel, save the receipt or system status and keep the work-permit and residence submissions separate.

14. Correct errors and protect deadlines
Send a missing or repeat examination item to the health center, an identity error to the issuing center and every system storing the wrong identity, a work-permit problem to the employer and work authority, and a visa or residence deadline to Shenzhen Public Security. Ask for written instructions, preserve the original document and never backdate or privately alter evidence.
If the report will arrive after an employer, school or immigration deadline, notify the relevant recipient before expiry and submit the appointment or examination receipt only as evidence of the pending step. Ask what lawful interim action is available. A pending health record does not extend stay or authorize work; Shenzhen Public Security's 2025 answer expressly keeps work authorization tied to the proper work permit and work-type residence document.

15. Limit disclosure of passport and health records
The passport, health form, laboratory attachments and certificate contain sensitive personal information. Use the official center account, verified employer or school system and Shenzhen government platform. Confirm the recipient before uploading and avoid unrestricted cloud links, group chats and agent accounts that you cannot audit.
Ask whether the recipient needs the certificate, a verification result or the full underlying report. Share only what is necessary for the named lawful process while complying with a competent authority's actual requirement. Record the purpose, recipient, date and file sent, and retain originals and secure backups separately.
16. Keep Shenzhen, date and authority boundaries attached
This guide was compiled from the listed sources on 16 July 2026. The strongest current sources are Shenzhen's January 2026 work-permit guide and live public-service entries. The institution directory does not display a revision date; detailed student pages are from 2023 and 2025; and the transfer FAQ is from May 2024. Dated sources are used only within their stated school or fact pattern.
Do not copy Guangzhou's Longkou West Road location, photo example, school receipt sequence or report estimate into Shenzhen. Do not export Shenzhen's 18-to-70 work-residence rule, Huanggang/Heping locations, extension or replacement wording, or transfer answer to Guangzhou or nationally.
